Willie Nelson’s 4-Word Praise of Son Micah Is All a True Artist Ever Wants To Hear

While Halloween featured plenty of costumes and sweet treats, fans of Willie Nelson received a special treat on November 1st when the country star released his newest album Last Leaf on the Tree. Marking his 76th solo studio album, the country singer continues to expand his discography at 91 years old. Not remotely wanting to slow down, Willie recently discussed spending time in the studio and working with the producer who happened to be his son, Micah Nelson.

Besides nurturing a promising career in the music industry, Willie also shared his love for family as he helped raise eight children. Although not the best when it came to relationships, the country singer watched as his children followed in his footsteps. For his one son, Lukas Nelson, he decided to hit the stage like his father. And while Micah also knows the feeling of standing in front of thousands, he took a different approach to Last Leaf on the Tree

Speaking with the Associated Press about working with Micah on the new album, Willie praised his son’s creativity. “He’s a real artist.” And even with Willie bringing decades worth of experience to the project, he apparently gave full control to Micah as he insisted, “He picked all the songs.”

Willie Nelson Getting Into The Cannabis Cookbook Business

Coming packed with 13 songs that featured some originals and some covers, the main theme of the album focused on mortality. For Willie, the theme made sense given his age. But although crossing into the 90s, Willie looked ahead to the future, noting, “I’m not worried about it.” He added, “I don’t hurt anywhere. I don’t have any reason to worry about dying. But I don’t know anybody who’s lived forever. I take pretty good care of myself. And I feel like I’m in pretty good shape physically.”

Already hinting at a new album, Willie also worked with his wife, Annie Nelson, on their new cookbook that surrounded the uses of cannabis. Titled, Willie and Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook, the couple joked the idea came about after the country singer switched to edibles. Annie declared, “He was a great taste tester.”
