Oklahoma-based country singer/songwriter Wyatt Flores is gearing up to release his debut full-length album Welcome to the Plains next month. He announced the album in late August with the lead single “Don’t Wanna Say Goodnight.” Now, he’s teasing more new music on social media.

On Friday (September 13), Flores took to social media to share a snippet of an unreleased song with his fans and followers. In the short video, he sits with his band and delivers an acoustic rendition of the song’s chorus which he also quoted in the post’s caption. “Why did I believe I could save you darlin’ without killing me?” he wrote. “Here’s a new one for y’all called ‘Oh Susannah’ from the upcoming album,” he added.
Flores performed “Oh Susannah” during a Grand Ole Opry appearance back in July. During the short set, he took a moment to reflect on what inspired him to write the song. He explained that he had to take a break from touring earlier this year for numerous reasons. Among those was “feeling the weight of the world and trying to help people” but feeling like he wasn’t helping enough.
“As cool as it is that I get to do this as my job and the music that I portray, it gets to save lives. There’s also the dark side of it where you don’t know if that song kept them on earth just a couple days longer,” he explained. “I didn’t write that song ‘Please Don’t Go’ for everybody out there in the world. I wrote it because of the situation I was in with the girl that I loved. But this song is for y’all. ‘Oh Susannah’ is you. I wrote this for you. And I’m sorry,” he shared.
Wyatt Flores on Welcome to the Plains
Wyatt Flores has been telling his story since he released his first song in 2021. Next month, with his debut full-length album, he’ll give listeners a wider view of who he is, where he’s from, and the things he’s experienced in recent years.
“It’s an album about home and a search for happiness. It’s an album about Stillwater, Oklahoma, and all the other little towns that have raised people like you and me,” he shared in a statement. Flores added that the album is, “About my family and the people and places in my life who have defined who I am today. This album is happy on one side and heartbreak on the other, and whoever you are, I hope you find something you love in here.”
Welcome to the Plains drops on October 18.
