Here’s a brief look at Fleetwood Mac’s history and at each album included in the box set:

About Fleetwood Mac’s Early Years

Fleetwood Mac had been formed in 1967 as a British blues-rock band led by singer/guitarist Peter Green and also featuring drummer Mick Fleetwood. Bassist John McVie joined the group shortly after its first gig.

Fleetwood Mac initially was hugely popular in the U.K., but had little success in the U.S. During its first seven years, the band underwent several lineup changes, with singer/keyboardist Christine McVie (John’s then-wife) joining in 1970. American singer/guitarist Bob Welch was recruited in 1971.

In 1974, Fleetwood Mac relocated to Los Angeles, and in December of that year, Welch resigned from the group. Buckingham, who had released one album with his then-girlfriend Nicks as a duo in 1973, was then asked to join Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham agreed, on one condition: Nicks also be hired.

The addition of Nicks and Buckingham would help propel Fleetwood Mac to superstardom in the U.S. and around the world.

Fleetwood Mac (1975)

The band’s self-titled 1975 album, sometimes known as “The White Album,” wound up topping the Billboard 200 in September 1976. It featured the hits “Say You Love Me,” “Rhiannon,” and “Over My Head,” plus such other gems as “Landslide” and “Monday Morning.”

Fleetwood Mac has been certified seven-times platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 7 million copies in the U.S.

Rumours (1977)

Rumours simply is one of the most successful and popular albums of all time. The album spent 31 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Rumours included four Top-10 hits—“Go Your Own Way,” “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun,” and “Dreams,” the last of which became Fleetwood Mac’s only single to top the Billboard Hot 100.

Rumours also won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1978. The album was certified 21-times platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 21 million copies in the States.

Tusk (1979)

Fleetwood Mac got a little experimental with the double album Tusk, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The eclectic collection of tunes did include three chart hits—the quirky symphonic title track, the ballad “Sara,” and melodic pop-rock tune “Think About Me.”

Tusk was certified double platinum by the RIAA.

Mirage (1982)

Mirage found Fleetwood Mac returning to the top of the Billboard 200, enjoying a five-week run at No. 1 on the chart in August-September 1982. The album featured such hits as “Hold Me,” “Gypsy,” and “Love in Store.”

Mirage also was certified double platinum by the RIAA.

Tango in the Night (1987)

Tango in the Night was the final studio album recorded by Fleetwood Mac’s classic lineup of Nicks, Buckingham, Fleetwood, and John and Christine McVie. The record peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

Tango in the Night included four Top-20 hits—“Little Lies,” “Big Love,” “Everywhere,” and “Seven Wonders.”

The album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 3 million in the U.S.
