Dave Navarro’s Poetic Social Media Post Leaves Fans Wondering if Jane’s Addiction Is Over for Good

Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Jane’s Addiction expertly blended psychedelic rock and funk metal to carve out a niche on the early ’90s alt scene. Looking to mount a comeback, the band kicked off their “Imminent Redemption” tour in August 2024. Unfortunately, the reunion came to a premature end after frontman Perry Farrell shoved and punched guitarist Dave Navarro onstage. Now, a social media post from Navarro has fans speculating whether this may mean the end of Jane’s Addiction as we know it.

Dave Navarro: “Perhaps It’s Simpler to Recognize When Something Is Gone”

Although celebrated poet Walt Whitman published his collection Leaves of Grass in 1855, it was never truly complete. Whitman spent the rest of his life tweaking the body of work, stopping only with his death in 1892.

In a post published to Instagram Tuesday (Sept. 17), Dave Navarro drew parallels between the poet’s seminal work and the music of Jane’s Addiction.

“Perhaps he, like us, was unable to fully understand his own work as he continuously tried to re-write, add and expand upon it, willing away his own work’s cycle of life… just as we have,” Navarro wrote in the caption. “Perhaps it’s simpler to recognize when something is gone and learn from the magical lesson of grief rather than avoid it and remain in a consistent state of dissatisfaction.”

Jane’s Addiction has made no official announcements regarding the band’s long-term future. In fact, they quietly released a new song, “True Love,” on Wednesday (Sept. 18.) However, Navarro’s feelings seem quite clear.

Although just halfway through their performance of “Ocean Size,” the band abruptly halted the concert.

Three days later, a post from the official Jane’s Addiction Instagram account announced they were canceling the rest of the tour. In a separate joint statement with drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery, Dave Navarro clarified that Farrell’s “continuing pattern of behavior” and “mental health difficulties” left his bandmates with “no choice.”

Farrell also apologized for his “inexcusable behavior” on his own personal Instagram account.
