Lil Durk Teases Joint Album with Morgan Wallen

When Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus joined forces in 2019 for the “Old Town Road” remix, the hip-hop and country music overlap reached new heights. Now, it looks like Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen could aim even higher soon.

On Thursday (June 8), Durk sent out a tweet alluding to a collaborative album with Wallen. Mentioning that they would be the “1st to do it,” it seems that Durk wants to be the first mainstream rapper to ever make a joint project with a country singer.

“Me and Morgan need to do a album together be the 1st to do it,” Durk wrote. “let’s do it @MorganWallen.”

As it stands now, the furthest lengths Durk has gone collaboratively was his 2021 full-length album with Lil Baby, which included feature guests like Travis Scott, Young Thug, and more. But, with an already-established friendship and working relationship, Wallen and Durk could do something unprecedented.

Just last month (May 26), Durk put out his eighth studio album Almost Healed, which included “Stand By Me” with Wallen as the 20th song on its track list. As the second-ever collaboration between the two, “Stand By Me” arrived just over a year after the duo linked for the first time on “Broadway Girls” in December 2021, which peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Currently, “Stand By Me” sits at No. 22 on the Hot 100, while Almost Healed debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album sold 125,000 units in its first week, the best debut of Durk’s career. Ironically, the man ahead of him on the chart is also the person he wants to work with the most.

Wallen’s album One Thing At A Time, released in early March, sold 126,000 copies last week, putting the singer at No. 2 just above Durk. As their respective 2023 albums battled it out for sales, though, the tandem was busy fishing together, shown in Wallen’s Instagram post from May 28.

Ultimately, the potential album from Durk and Wallen has yet to be given a title, release date, or track list. But, as the two continue to become fonder of one another, this LP feels like a moment that is bound to happen in the future.
