Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” Matches Adult Contemporary Chart Record

Miley Cyrus is continuing to reap the benefits of “Flowers.” Following its release in January 2023, “Flowers” smashed streaming records and shot to the top of the charts. It’s continuing to make history on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, as “Flowers” has now spent 24 weeks at No. 1, a feat she shares with Adele and Ed Sheeran. This makes Cyrus the second woman in history to have the longest run in the pinnacle position on the chart since Adele also spent 24 weeks at No. 1 with “Easy” in 2021.

Uncle Kracker, The Weeknd, and Maroon 5 are the only other artists to surpass this record. Uncle Kracker and Dobie Gray spent 28 weeks at No. 1 with “Drift Away,” while The Weeknd bested that when “Blinding Lights” spent 35 weeks at No. 1. Maroon 5 currently holds the record with 36 weeks at No. 1 with “Girls Like You.”

“Flowers” claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks at the beginning of 2023. It was released as the lead single off Cyrus’ latest album, Endless Summer Vacation. “Thankful that Flowers is Number 1 around the world,” Cyrus shared on Instagram at the time. “This song is dedicated to my fans & the steadfast self-love I wish for each of you. Forever grateful, Miley.”

The album’s new single, “Used to Be Young,” dropped in August 2023. “These lyrics were written almost two years ago at the beginning of my [Endless Summer Vacation],” Cyrus explained on social media about the meaning of the song. “It was at a time I felt misunderstood. I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself every day. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete.”
