Benson Boone Shares Connection With Video Vanguard Award Winner
Outside of performing at the VMAs, Boone also shared a connection with Katy Perry, who won the Video Vanguard Award. Before taking the stage at the VMAs, Boone competed on American Idol. And even though he received high praise from the judges, he decided to quit.
Shocking fans and the judges, Boone eventually opened up about his decision, explaining, “The reason that I quit American Idol is because I wanted to do music. I decided that I wanted to do music, and I don’t want people to be like, ‘Oh Benson Boone. American Idol blew him up. That’s what he comes from.’ No. I want to be Benson Boone because I write smash hits, and they love my music. That’s why I quit.”
While his decision to make, it appears to be working out for Boone as he entertained fans and caught the eye of Carpenter.
