Slash Recalls Falling in Love With Nashville, Country Music, and Working With Chris Stapleton

Throughout his time in the spotlight and as part of the iconic band Guns Nโ€™ Roses, Slash showcased his love for genres like rock, heavy metal, and even blues. But that doesnโ€™t mean he doesnโ€™t love other genres like country music. Over the last few years, country music watched as it went mainstream with singers like Post Malone and Beyonce entering the genre. With stars like Lainey Wilson insisting country is cool again, Slash recalled traveling to Nashville to work with the Conspirators.

At the time, Slash helped record the 4 album and explained how they worked in Nashville. “We got an Airbnb here โ€” it was during [2020] โ€” so we were here for a couple of weeks and we were recording at the RCA Studio, Studio A, which is a very historic, famous recording studio here in Nashville.” He added, โ€œBeing in that building, there was just this vibe, and it was all these great country artists all over the walls, but real iconic country people.”

Slash Praises His Work With Chris Stapleton

Finding a love for country music, Slash wanted nothing more than to work with Chris Stapleton when it came to covering โ€œOh Wellโ€ on his new album Orgy of the Damned. “We’d already recorded the song, and I had him earmarked as the guy, but I had my doubts that he would actually do it. Just his voice, his way that his sort of drawl is and that tone of his, that would be the greatest pairing. Finally I did get his number and I called him, and he said, ‘Oh yeah, yeah, that’d be cool.’ And I was I beside myself that he was into it.”

With Orgy of the Damned gaining high praise from fans, Slash continued to speak on the passion of Stapleton. “Somebody like Chris Stapleton, when it’s done from pure of heart and it’s done with passion and integrity, it’s as great as anything else.”
