SZA Joins Alternative Artist Jean Dawson for New Single “NO SZNS”

As part of her continuously busy transition from summer to fall, SZA made a new vocal appearance on Friday (September 22) on Jean Dawson’s new song “NO SZNS.” Dawson, a San Diego musician who blends rock, punk, and R&B, released the song just two weeks before the one-year anniversary of his October 2022 album Chaos Now, as “NO SZNS” marks his most high-profile collaboration to date.

On this new cut, Dawson opens up with a choppy, passionate verse and hook about how he doesn’t find any solace in the changing of seasons, since his issues stem from internal battles.

In the spring, you can’t hear a thing
All the birds and bees
Nobody think in the summer time
People off the brink
In California, we ain’t got no seasons
All the same to me
‘Cause in the heat, like to press repeat
Every day is every day

When SZA enters, she offers a harmonious verse about how she finds seasonal fulfillment from the touch of a partner, rather than in the actual weather outside.

Pull up on me when it’s snowy
Got me feelin’ so important
Now that I need your warmth
All of the seasons I want

Dawson first teased “NO SZNS” back in May when spring turned to summer, sharing his excitement about the opportunity to work with a star like SZA. Along with his tweet, he shared a video of both of them in the studio together.

SZA’s contribution on “NO SZNS” comes just a week after she released an acoustic version of her hit “Snooze” with Justin Bieber, along with giving a feature verse to Drake for his song “Slime You Out,” expected to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This explosion of activity from SZA also follows her announcing the impending arrival of Lana, the 7-10 song deluxe version of her December 2022 album SOS. Lana has yet to be given a release date, but as SZA keeps ramping up her workload, it seems like the deluxe could drop any day now.
