“The Bridge”: Maren Morris Embraces Change on New Songs

Maren Morris is building bridges with her new music. The country superstar announced on Tuesday (September 12) that she’s dropping a pair of new songs titled “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here” on Friday (September 15) in what she’s calling, “The Bridge.”

“The Bridge’ honors where I’ve been but also feels like a forward step into the sun,” she explained about the meaning of the songs in a note posted on Instagram. She said that she’s been working on her new album “nonstop” all this year and specifically chose these songs to release in tandem, as they act as a “bridge” between her last album and the next. She added that the songs were written one day apart from each other and “deserved a moment” together.

“I welcome, celebrate, and grieve the changes that have happened these last few years and these two songs say it better than I ever could in a caption or interview,” she professed, assuring that the album is on its way. “In the meantime, let’s cross the bridge together. Hope you enjoy these.” She ends the post with a line that is possibly a lyric in one of the songs, “Wherever I’m going, hope I’m not the only one.”

The cover art shows Morris looking strikingly fierce in a black dress against a yellow backdrop with “The Bridge” in bold, black lettering, alongside “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here.” Morris previewed “Get the Hell Out of Here” at a show in London in July 2023 that broaches the subject of mental health.

I’ve gone against the grain and good advice / I drank my weight to dehydrate the thoughts that flood my mind / So, to all my grand apologies I know are insincere / Go on, get the hell out of here, she sings in the ballad.

Morris’s latest album, Humble Quest, was released in March 2022. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 21 on the all-genre Billboard 200. Its lead single, “Circles Around This Town,” was a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts.
