The award-winning band first announced the state-of-the-art run at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas on Monday (April 24). Initially, the quartet planned to play only five shows starting September 29. However, on Thursday, (April 27), U2 extended their run through early November – offering 12 more opportunities for devoted fans to see them live.

The forthcoming residency serves as the band’s first live run together in more than four years. Speculation of the reunion began to swirl in mid-February when a Super Bowl ad featured the hitmakers promoting the new MSG Sphere.

The high-end facility at the Venetian Resort was slated to open in 2021 until COVID-19 interfered with the production and delayed its opening. According to The Irish Times, the Vegas residency won’t include the band’s drummer, Larry Mullen Jr. The instrumentalist will be taking time to undergo and recuperate from surgery. Drummer Bram van den Berg will step in and take Mullen’s place.

“It’s going to take all we’ve got to approach the Sphere without our bandmate in the drum seat,” said the band in a statement. “Larry has joined us in welcoming Bram van den Berg, who is a force in his own right.”

Despite their missing member, they are eager to get on stage and sing along with fans.

“The Sphere show has been in the works for a long time. We don’t want to let people down, least of all our audience…the truth is we miss them as much as they appear to miss us. Our audience was always the fifth member of the band,” they explained to the outlet following the commercial. “Bottom line, U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019, and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again. And what a unique stage they’re building for us out there in the desert.”

U2 is expected to pull from their impressive catalog and share their biggest hits such as “With or Without You,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” “Beautiful Day,” and more. However, the majority of the interactive show will be dedicated to their 1991 album, Achtung Baby
