At a show in Atlantic City over the weekend, Urban performed “Margaritaville” to a more than responsive crowd. In the clip below, Urban is seen singing the chorus before letting the crowd take on the last line: Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville / Searchin’ for my long lost shaker of salt / Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame / And it’s my own damn fault.

Prior to performing the 1977 hit, Urban commented on Buffett’s loss and the “honor” of knowing him before he passed. “I want to take a second to acknowledge the passing of an incredible musician, Jimmy Buffett,” Urban told the crowd (quote per Music Mayhem). “I was shocked today to hear about that.

“[I] was immediately thinking about a time that we got to go down to St. Barts and we got an invite from Jimmy to go and have dinner with him and his wife,” he continued. “When we were down there, Jimmy said to me, ‘Man, you should grab your guitar. There’s a bar in town and I’m sure if we take our guitars they’ll let us sit in.’ So, here’s me and Jimmy carrying our guitars down the street in St. Barts and we go to this cool bar and we sang a couple of songs. … Such an honor to know him and a huge loss, but an incredible legacy of music that he’s left behind.”

Buffett died on September 1 of complications Merkel cell carcinoma. “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs,” the announcement read. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
