Miranda Lambert’s Birth Certificate Has a Different Name Crossed Out—and She Thinks She Knows Why

While it’s not uncommon for some singers to use a stage name that differs from their real name, Miranda Lambert never wanted to change the name her parents gave her. But at the same time, she often wondered what her real name was. Although the hitmaker admitted her birth certificate read Miranda, she suggested her father might have written the wrong name because of his background in law enforcement. And while her father won’t discuss the issue, the evidence was right there on the certificate.

Over the last few months, Lambert has promoted her newest album, Crisco, which was released on October 2. During that time, the singer shared a few stories from her childhood and the road that led her to country music stardom. But before the No. 1 hits and sold-out concerts, she was just a girl with a dream and a birth certificate with a crossed-out name. “It’s literally crossed out on my birth certificate, and he changed it to Miranda, at the last minute.”

Although loving her name, Lambert suggested that her father’s law enforcement background played a crucial role in the process. “I literally think that I’m named after Miranda Rights. So does my mom.” Lambert’s father has remained extremely silent on the issue, but with both parents becoming private investigators, the theory certainly seemed to have some evidence behind it.

Miranda Lambert Never Wanted To Be The Country Music “Pretty Girl”

Aside from her name, Lambert’s childhood was surrounded by law enforcement. And she believed that played a big role in how she approached her music career. “I wanted to be known for my songs, not for being the pretty girl or wearing crop tops. In the early 2000s, that was kind of the thing. It’s like dress sexy, be sexy, be a pretty girl.”

With Lambert not fitting into that “pretty girl” mold, she paved her own path that highlighted the fierceness that came with knowing exactly who she wanted to be. And having seen the industry change over the years, she was thrilled about the diversity within country music. “I’m so thankful that there’s room for a crowd now. Like, everybody has something different. I feel like all the voices can be heard, all the messages can be heard. You don’t have to love them all, but at least there’s a way to hear them. And then you decide.”

Her original name might remain a mystery, especially if her father continues keeping quiet. But when it came to her career, Lambert never had the same identity crisis. She knew what kind of artist she wanted to be even before the spotlight hit her.
