In early November of last year, Migos rapper Takeoff was shot at 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred while he and his uncle and fellow Migos emcee Quavo were watching a dice game between friends. An altercation ensued from this, and although Takeoff was not involved in the dispute, he sustained injuries from a stray bullet and died the same night. Now, his mother is seeking retribution.

On Thursday (June 8), Rolling Stone obtained the text of a lawsuit filed by Takeoff’s mother Tatania Davenport against 810 Billiards & Bowling. In the documents, Davenport asserts that they did not provide the proper security to ensure an incident like this would not occur. Additionally, she states that Takeoff was present that day for a special event that the venue should have necessary preparations for.
“In fact, social media posting in advance of the party made it clear that not only basic security measures needed to be followed, but advance planning and consideration should have been taken into account, which defendants were negligent in failing to do,” the suit reads.
Later in the suit, she brings up how criminal activity is frequent at the venue and that they have not taken the proper steps to curb illegal behavior.
“Moreover, in addition to prior crimes, Defendants negligently failed to take necessary and unique precautions due to the specific event and the attendees,” the suit reads.
It is currently unclear how Davenport would be compensated should the suit go through, but it is certain that she wants 810 Billiards & Bowling held accountable in some capacity. The suit outlined that she is seeking “compensatory, special, economic, consequential, general, punitive, and all other damages permissible under Texas law.”
Davneport’s suit this week comes just a couple of weeks after Patrick Xavier Clark was officially indicted for Takeoff’s murder. It’s not known currently to which degree of murder Clark will be charged, or when his trial is set to begin, but he has been the police’s primary suspect since the shooting last fall.
