Metro Boomin quite simply never stops working. Just a couple weeks removed from crafting the soundtrack for the new Spider-Verse animated film, Metro is now laser-focused on finishing up his joint album with Atlanta icon Future.

Speaking with Complex at a recent pop-up shop he hosted in New York, the superstar rap producer explained that he cleared his upcoming calendar so that he and Future can complete their yet-to-be-titled album.
“The ultimate album right now is about to be the one with me and Future,” he said. “Now that Spider-Man is out and people are loving and resonating with it, my focus can go to what me and Pluto got coming out. I’m not doing anything until that gets done.”
Expected to come out at some point in 2023, the Metro-Future collaboration will arrive less than a year after Metro’s sophomore studio album Heroes & Villains from December, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. But, now that he’s wrapped up the release and promotion of his solo LP and the Spider-Verse project, Future is his main focus.
“It’s tunnel vision on that one because I was spreading myself thin between Heroes & Villains, Spider-Man, Coachella, and still shooting videos for Heroes,” he continued. “But now the focus is on this album and we’ve been working.”
This highly-anticipated tape will be Future’s first full-length effort since his beloved April 2022 album I Never Liked You, which included chart-topping hits like “Love You Better” and “Wait For U” with Drake and Tems. When first announcing his album with Future on Apple Music’s Ebro Darden Show earlier this year, Metro emphasized how momentous the release will be for both of their careers.
“I know how important this album from both of us is going to be,” he said. “With our track record, it’s important that we deliver and not miss at all. Me and him working together is easy ’cause we’ve been doing it for 10-plus years.”
Additionally, Metro revealed to Darden that he and Future had songs they intended to add to the Heroes & Villains track list, but decided to save them for their joint project.
“(Future) actually finished most of the album at my studio in LA… At first, we were going to put a couple of songs with me and him on the album, but we had took them off because I had talked to him,” he said. “I was like, ‘Look, the last time anybody’s really heard a song from me and you was ‘Mask Off.’ So instead of us randomly throwing one or two songs we did on (Heroes vs. Villains), we got to wait and just give them a joint.’”
With Metro devoting all of his time to Future for the next couple of months, other upcoming collaborative albums of his with J.I.D. and Lil Durk will likely be put on pause. But, with two of hip-hop’s most celebrated figures locking in for a common goal, fans can expect that Metro and Future will surely impress on their joint LP.
